A Quick Flip on Skate Decks
June 18th, 2009 by adminSkateboards, or skate decks for the ride’s aficionado, is a four-wheeled piece of board that is usually made of wood or fiber glass. Skate decks are used for the art of skateboarding. Skateboarding is an active sport where the rider, or more commonly known as the skater, pulls up tricks in skate ramps or skate parks such as flipping in mid-air or jumping over stair cases, high beams or obstacles.
Skateboarding was believed to be devised by surf maniacs who wanted to be able to surf even when there where no violent waves. The first skate decks are made out of wooden planks with roller skate wheels attached at the bottom. Thus, the modern skate decks do not greatly differ from its ancestors. During the birth of skate decks, skateboarding was popularly termed as sidewalk surfing.
Aside for its leisurely purpose, skate decks can also be used as means of transportation. Skate decks that are used for this purpose are referred as long boards. Similar with bicycles, using skate decks as a means of transportation is greatly encouraged as long as it is done with caution in mind. Some of the benefits of using skate decks are physical well-being, practicality and portability. Moreover, use of skate decks is more environmental-friendly than use of smoke-emitting vehicles.
